Note: 5 Mills Education Graduate Credits had been offered 2018-2022 upon completion of each summer session.
Upon completion of the second summer session (total: 10 credits), students were awarded the Mills Waldorf Professional Development Certificate.
After a successful 4 year program 2018-2022 at Mills College in Oakland, California, the Initiative here described is on pause as the host institution just this past summer merged with Northeastern University, also a state-accredited private university, credentialed to offer Massachusetts and California Teacher Certifications, MA’s and PhD’s. The pause is used to strengthen and deepen our programming.
Up to Summer, 2022 and since 2018, the College School of Education has partnered with AlanusUniversity in Alfter, Germany, and with Oakland’s Community School for Creative Education, a K-8 Oakland public charter school and the country’s first intercultural urban Waldorf school, to offer the Mills Waldorf Professional Development Certificate Program. The Emergency Pedagogy Program run by Friends of Waldorf Education is a further founding and key partner. The goal of the Mills program has been to build intercultural, equity-focused Waldorf professional development and research capacity. Graduates of the program work mainly in public, tuition-free, low-income communities, where the benefits of a Waldorf approach for promoting the social-emotional and academic development of multiply marginalized students is becoming increasingly recognized.
This program is currently on pause for deepening and strengthening in the wake of the 2022 merger of Mills College, Oakland, CA, with Northeastern University, Boston, MA.
